AFRICA: Asbestos fibre counting

AFRICA is an international proficiency testing scheme for laboratories measuring airborne asbestos using the standard optical microscopy method.

AFRICA tests participating labs twice a year. Members of the scheme get the benefit of comparing their analytical performances with some of the leading asbestos laboratories worldwide.

An application form is available to download from this webpage. It gives times and prices of the latest rounds. If you wish to join AFRICA, send the completed form to the IOM. Details of the scheme's operational procedures are also available.

You can also obtain a list of the current AFRICA members and a recent summary report from the scheme.

Further information: contact Dr Alan Jones, Head of Asbestos and Other Fibres (telephone: +44 131 449 8041).
