Research Scientist
Statistics and Toxicology, Research Division
The Institute of Occupational Medicine (IOM) is a major independent centre of scientific excellence in the fields of occupational and environmental health, hygiene and safety. Our mission is the benefit those at work and in the community by providing quality research, consultancy and training in health, hygiene and safety and by maintaining our independent, impartial position as an international centre of excellence.
We are now seeking to appoint a Research Scientist within the Statistics and Toxicology Section in our Research Division . Working under the supervision of Hilary Cowie , the successful candidate will work on a number of different research projects, providing input principally in the area of environment and health.
This post provides an exciting opportunity for a numerate graduate with a science, social science, public health or environmental degree and would ideally suit someone with an interest in both pollutant and non-pollutant environmental factors, and social determinants of health. Some knowledge of statistical and epidemiological techniques is required. Training in these areas will be provided if necessary. The postholder will require good organisational, communication and computer literacy skills.
The salary range for this post is £17-£30k, depending on experience

Sales Ledger Clerk
Applications are invited for the post of Sales Ledger Clerk in the Finance Section. Reporting to the Finance Director, responsibilities of the post include processing sales ledger invoices and receipts.Applicants should ideally have at least 12 months relevant experience of sales ledger within a high volume environment. You must be able to work to deadlines as part of a team and be confident in communicating at all levels across the IOM and with suppliers. Excellent organisational skills and good IT skills are essential.
The following is a brief description of the duties involved:
Responsible for a specific sales ledger, reconciling accounts, ensure that cash and credit notes are allocated
Processing sales invoices and credit notes
Processing adjustments to the sales ledger
Posting receipts to the sales ledger
Assisting the Credit Controller in the regular preparation of statement to debtors

Financial Controller
The IOM is the premier independent UK provider of research and consultancy services in the fields of occupational and environmental health, hygiene and safety.
Applicants are invited for the new post of Financial Controller.
The role will be to manage a small team and be comfortable with both routine and strategic work.
Specifically the role will involve delivering strong working capital management, high quality financial and management information, and the continuous improvement of financial processes, management information and related systems.
The successful candidate will be CA, ACCA or CIMA qualified, with at least two years post qualified experience, and have experience in managing staff. You will possess excellent technical and interpersonal skills.
Starting salary for this post will be dependent on qualifications and experience.

Consultant Occupational Hygienist

This post provides an exciting opportunity for a successful and ambitious professional to further their career, the post holder’s principal role will be to provide an expert witness service in civil litigation, reporting initially to our senior expert witness consultant who is based at Chesterfield.
We are looking for a successful candidate who will have substantial experience as an occupational hygienist, preferably with a BOHS Diploma in Occupational Hygiene and some experience as acting as an expert witness would be advantageous.
